My 1961 Mondadori Italian-English dictionary tells me it means both Basset Hound and Dachshund (which is odd since those are two totally different types of dogs). But coincidentally, Basset Hounds are my favorite... I've always had at least 3 of them for the past 30 years.

from the moment I was born the house was filled with stacks of comics... my sister had a closet full! So I was looking at (if not reading) these comics literally since birth... and my favorites were always the $crooge & Donald stories by that "good artist" (though I must admit that I also loved the Little Lulu stories written by John Stanley). So... $crooge & Donald were as ALIVE to me as my parents or sister were!

My comic-fan story is almost the same, with a little difference...
My father collected a large amount of comics, expecially Disney ones, so since I was born I had in my hands comics of all the american and italian authors. And I grew up thinking that ducks and mice were as alive and real as the other persons I know... real in their having a house, work problems, love feelings... and also in their being, definitely, ducks and mice

Bassotto is the italian translation for Beagle Boy.
The forum automatically assigns a name of a Disney character to all users, depending on the numbers of posts. For example, I am Pico de Paperis (Ludwig von Drake) because I wrote more than 1300 messages

Regarding the thing of Ducks that are considered humans, opinions are goods because they're different each others, I think having been born in America or in Italy can considerably affect this point of view, I think that the greater part of this forum would easily see Donald pulling a feather off himself to save himself (or Scrooge pulling it off him to use it as a pen, it's something that may be related to Guido Martina - another great Italian comic writer), all this because we grew up with Scarpa and Cimino's stories (by the way, have you ever read something by Rodolfo Cimino?).

The meaning of all this stuff is demostrate that even here there are so many D.U.C.K. fan searching for your meticulous dedications and one day we could/will deal with hidden mice.

Ho come l'impressione che sia meglio specificare che sia un autore, altrimenti lo riconduce al personaggio e non ci capisce niente.

Sure, they're 2 different dog's race, but in italian "Banda Bassotti" share the same initials with "Beagle Boys", so we're called them. However in '60 beagle isn't yet know in Italy, so we used bassotto.

At this rate you won't for long! It only lasts for your first 50 messages or so. These labels are a bit like JW medals, awarded on the basis of how much you write in the forum. And I hope you become a ten-star general (that would be "wise old man from a Rodolfo Cimino story", and I know you never read any of those, so just take it on trust that it's a good thing), even if that's no longer a basset-hound.

I'm so glad that you chose to join this community and that people have welcomed you like they have, even with a team of dedicated and very competent translators (THANKS Paperinika, Brigitta e Zio Paperone!) who relay messages back and forth as soon as they are written. I'm quite familiar with language barriers (think of when I lived in Japan; now that was something) and it's such a nice feeling when you're in a group of friendly people where the will to communicate finds every possible way to break those barriers down. And all this despite the tiny characters challenging your eyesight. It really means there's something going on...

Anyway, you're onto 20 messages a week so keep it up and you'll soon turn from a Beagle Boy (or, if you wish, Basset Hound) to a very Barksian "Brutopian". But hey, you could always add "Basset Hound" under your name yourself, in the place where it currently says "novellino" (newbie). I'm sure the local experts will be delighted to show you how to do that by poking around in your profile. You could even add a picture (of Suki... of a Barks character... of whatever else you like) and they'll be more than pleased to show you how to do that too. Me, I'm just pleased you're back the way you used to, answering fan mail and getting caught in the buzz of all this excitement ("oh wait, I had work to do in the yard but let me go and check if there's anything new on the forum...", you know what I mean). It puts warmth in my heart, especially after that long message I wrote on DCML a few months ago.

Of course you're right. Anyway the Bassotto isn't exactly a Basset (who said it is? ), it's the Dachshund or sausage dog.
We call the Bassett hound... ahem.. just bassett hound
