A nerd question for a nerd? Maybe I can answer that.
No, I never had reason to draw or even think about a Calisota flag. It was easy to create a McDuck family crest (and again, if you lived anywhere other than Italia, you would have seen & read the full story behind that creation in my texts that other publishers use to accompany my stories). But a Calisota flag? What would it look like? Without starting the debate of whether these "Ducks" are actual talking waterfowl or just caricatures of human beings (as I see them), I can at least say that the flag would not exclusively refer to Ducks as the family crest naturally did, since Ducks, other than $crooge, do not seem to be in power in Calisota. All governmental offices and most of the population seems to be Barks' dog-humans. I think the first thing I would do is look at a California or Oregon flag, or other Western US flags and see if I got any ideas.
Aha!!! But while typing the above, I thought about the KENTUCKY flag even though Kentucky is in the East. And there's something special about our flag that could be referenced in a Calisota flag, especially if we consider that the founding of Duckburg may have had a great deal to do with the later establishment of Calisota as a separate state rather than becoming the Northern third of California. And (as you know?) I like to find small ways to make Kentucky have something to do with my Duck stories.
Google "kentucky state flag" and have a look. Our flag contains the image of a frontiersman (allegedly supposed to suggest Kentuckian Daniel Boone) embracing a well-dressed man (supposed to represent a city-dweller) with the motto "United we stand -- divided we fall". The symbolism of all this involves how Kentucky was a very wild and wooly land owing much of its candidacy for statehood by being explored by buckskin-wearing frontiersmen, the most famous and successful of whom was easily Daniel Boone. But also that such pioneers needed the support of the statesman and establishment of towns to become a state. Also, Kentucky became a state shortly after the Revolutionary War (we were the 15th state after the initial 13) So, the motto also refers to that period in American history when warding off British (or Red Indian?) invasions was another reason to stand together for strength.
Isn't this very similar to the history of Duckburg? The Calisota state flag could show buckskin-wearing Cornelius Coot (rather than Daniel Boone) as the early explorer and hero of the state shaking hands with a dog-human. Now, as to what the motto might be, that will take a bit more thought. But I'd make it somehow similar to Kentucky's "United we stand, divided we fall" motto. But not a parody... I would not devise a silly flag for Calisota. It should have a noble motto.
